17 Blocks (2019)

It is only 17 blocks from the White House, where families live on the ground floor. Before his debut, the director became acquainted with the neighbor's single mother, Shirley and the family, and often asked her youngest son Emmanuel to borrow a camera. Emmanuel photographed all kinds of laughter, absurdity and violence around him from the age of 9; he grew up to become a man of talent, but his life was always unpredictable. His family and director continue those video chronicles; the film has been filmed for 20 years, explaining the experiences of family life at the bottom, and exploring the meaning of life and interpersonal emotions from time to time. The director and the characters in the film take turns in the mirror, interlacing objective reproduction and subjective statements, showing a unique narrative form.
