Helen (Anne Bancroft Anne Bancroft), a female writer who lives in New York, is often frustrated that she can't get the rare books she needs. By chance, she found an advertisement in a magazine from a second-hand bookstore in England and wrote a request list for the owner of Mark's Bookstore at 84 Charing Cross Street in London. Soon, Mark's Bookstore gave her an unexpected surprise: she bought the rare books she had been looking for and received a sincere recommendation from Frank (Anthony Hopkins Anthony Hopkins). From then on, two people who loved books began to communicate with each other for 20 years. Helen not only asked Frank for hard-to-find books, but also shared her reading experience with him. The two exchanged literary views and commented on famous works. Frank traveled around to buy rare books for Helen, while Helen sent rich food from the United States to ease the food shortage problem caused by the British physical rationing system for bookstore staff.
