The play is adapted from Ben Macintyre's best-selling documentary work of the same name, which is adapted by Alexander Cary, the creator of Homeland Security, and directed by Nick Murphy, the director of Blood Plague. The story starts from the complex relationship between Kim Philby (Pearce) and Nicholas Elliott (Lewis), a colleague and close friend of MI6, and tells the story of Philby, a double agent of MI6 and KGB. Cass also includes Anna Maxwell Martin, Stephen Kunken and Adrian Edmondson. This Cold War spy thriller documentary is thought to have the temperament of Ian Fleming and John Le Carre. In fact, the postscript is written by John Le Carre, the master of spy stories.
