In the 4th century AD, the Roman Empire was in decline, and in Alexandria, the polytheistic wise Hipatia (Rachel Weizi Rachel Weisz) taught to his disciples. Oristis (Oscar Isaac Oscar Isaac) frequently shows his love for her, even boldly expressing his love in the theater; slave Daus (Max Minghella Max Minghella) also likes her, but is unable to speak out because of his humble status. At the same time, the freedom advocated by Christians began to shake Daus's faith, which led to his flogging, and it was Hippatia who healed his wounds and soothed his heart. The situation was turbulent, riots broke out under the instigation of polytheism, Christianity turned to the advantage, and the two sides confronted each other in the Library of Alexandria. Later, the Roman ruler ordered polytheism to withdraw from the library and allow Christians to enter, and a cruel catastrophe began. This film is a non-competitive exhibition of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival and is set in Fort Ricasoli, Malta, where Gladiator and Troy were filmed. Hippatia was supposed to be starring Nicole Kidman, but because she was in the Golden Compass.
