Matthew (Richard Farnsworth Richard Farnsworth) and Maria (Colleen Duhurst Colleen Dewhurst) feel old and decide to adopt a boy to help them take care of the farm's affairs. However, the orphanage made a scene and sent a red-haired girl named Anne (Megan Flores Megan Follows) to Prince Edward Island. Anne is very lively and lovely, with endless words and questions all day, which makes Maria, who is always serious and lack of sense of humor, feel overwhelmed. However, with the passage of time, a sincere friendship has gradually emerged between the young and the old.
