An isolated village in northern Denmark in the 1870s. A pair of Lutheran sisters Martina (Birgit Feder Speer Birgitte Federspiel) and Philippa (Bodier Gill Bodil Kjer) live in seclusion on weekdays, under the guidance of their father as a priest, they devote themselves to the religious cause at the expense of love. The two kind sisters took in a woman Babette (Stephanie Odeanne St é phane Audran) who came from Paris to avoid chaos. The mysterious Babette turned out to be a famous chef in a French restaurant. Babette was lucky to receive a huge French lottery of 10,000 francs. In return for the kind sisters, Babette decided to cook himself on the anniversary of the two sisters' father's death and serve the villagers an authentic French meal. Based on the novel of Danish woman writer Isaac Dinasson, this film won the Best Foreign language Film Award at the 60th Academy Awards in 1988 and the Catholic Humanitarian Award at the 40th Cannes Film Festival in 1987. and nominated for the 46th Golden Globe Awards in 1989.
