Ray (John Gates John Getz) and Abby (Francis McDormond Frances McDormand) have an affair at the hotel on a rainy night. Ray is a bar man, while Abby is the wife of bar owner Maddie (Dan Hadaya Dan Hedaya). Maddie suspected that his wife was having an affair, so she hired Detective Weiss to investigate. Maddie, who knew the truth, was furious and sneaked into Ray's house in an attempt to kidnap his wife, but was injured in the fight. Maddie met Weiss and decided to spend money to kill them. The film, the debut of the Cohen brothers, was created in 1984 and was shot in two months at a cost of only $800000. In 2009, producer Zhang Weiping paid $2 million for the rights to the film, inviting Zhang Yimou to shoot three shootings.
