At the turn of 1988 and 1989, the Soviet-Afghan war was coming to an end and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics withdrew its troops from Afghanistan one after another. However, pilot Alexander, the son of Soviet General Vasilyev, was captured by Muslim guerrillas in a plane crash. Therefore, before returning to their long-lost hometown, the 108th motorized Infantry Division needs to complete one last task: to save the general's son. The film is adapted from a true story and tells a dusty history, focusing on the brave and tragic withdrawal of Soviet troops through the Salang pass, showing the fear, danger and complexity of human nature in war.
