In the United States in the 1950s, a young woman Tris (Rooney Mara) worked as a salesperson in a New York department store, but she longed for a job as a photographer. One day, a beautiful and elegant blonde Carol (Kate Blanchett) came to the department store to buy Christmas presents, only to hit it off with Tracy. After the two met, Tris learned that Carol had a daughter and was divorcing her husband Haji (Kyle Chandler). Through correspondence, dating and road trips, Tracy and Carol found that they loved each other, which was not allowed in society at the time. Tracy's boyfriend thought she was just confused, while Carol's husband hired a private investigator to investigate and collect evidence, hoping that she had nothing to lose in the divorce proceedings. The time has finally come to test the two women: can they stick to their hearts and follow the emotional road to the end at all costs under social pressure? Carol, a new work by Todd Haines, a famous American independent director, was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 68th Cannes Film Festival and won the best actress award. The film is based on the price of salt, a lesbian novel published anonymously by Patricia Heysmith in 1952.
