During the American Civil War, soldier Inman (Jude Law) was discouraged by successive battles and the constant defeat of the Confederate army. In order to see his lover Ada (Nicole Kidman) again, he left the army and embarked on a long journey home. In his hometown, the remote town of Lengshan, Ada also suffers from the torment of life and the pain of waiting. The death of her father and the departure of slaves make the pampered Ada life difficult to sustain. With the help of Ruby Thewes (Ren é e Zellweger), a mountain girl, Ada gradually learns to struggle with the rough and sharp life around her, looking forward to the return of Inman. Through the flames of war, cold mountains, is the only connection between them, here, even if all the old faith paradise has been destroyed, but can still let you heal the pain.
