The film is based on a series of best-selling children's books of the same name by American writer Jeff Kinney. Gray Hoffley (Zachary Gordon Zachary Gordon), who entered junior high school on his first day, is nervous and desperately wants to highlight his performance to become the star in the class yearbook. Gray's brother Roderick (Devon Bostick Devon Bostick) gives him a bunch of advice that can't do this or that, but his good friend Raleigh Jefferson (Robert Capron Robert Capron) disagrees and continues to use the same dress, language and attitude that he used in primary school, which makes Gray a headache. Gray refuses the invitation of the girl Angel (Kolomorez Chloe Moretz) to join the school newspaper and pulls Raleigh to join the school security patrol. Gray made a mistake while avoiding the three punks offended by Halloween, but lacked the courage to admit it and let Raleigh take the blame. The follow-up events are getting worse and worse, Gray's popularity at school has plummeted, and even his friendship with Raleigh is in jeopardy.
