In 1990, a huge spaceship appeared over the earth, people were nervous, but very curious. After a period of tense waiting, the alien spacecraft remained silent. Humans finally approached it carefully and forced into the cabin, only to find countless aliens. They describe it as ugly, like shrimp, and in poor health and weakness. It turned out that this was a group of extraterrestrial refugees who were eventually accepted by earthlings and lived in isolation in an area of Johannesburg, South Africa, with the name "District 9". After 20 years of reproduction, the number of alien refugees has expanded to as much as 1.8 million, and there are frequent conflicts with the surrounding human beings, more and more human beings are calling for "prawns" to be driven out of the earth. MNU (Alliance of Nations) decided to move alien refugees to more remote areas after consultations. Wikus (Sharlto Copley), a special agent in the alien affairs department of MNU, is responsible for the relocation. Wikus is arrogant and casual in the mobilization process and has frequent conflicts with local residents. In the end, he paid the price for his actions, the mysterious alien fluid infected him, and Wikus slowly became an alien.
