It tells the story of how Jose Antonio Vargas, an unidentified immigrant from the United States and a Filipino, a winner of the Purchley Prize for Journalism, participated in promoting the reform of American immigration policy and fighting for his legal status. Hussey, who was hired by his grandfather who immigrated to the United States at the age of 12, did not know that he was an illegal immigrant until he went to apply for a driver's license alone at the age of 16. Besieged by panic, Hussey slowly began to seek the help of high school teachers and headmasters, while discovering his love for journalism, and began to publish news in the school newspaper. After graduating from college, Hussey muddled through various ways to get internships in major American newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the New Yorker, the Washington Post, and so on. In a campaign to promote immigration policy reform, his group appeared on the cover of time magazine and successfully prompted President Obama to announce a decree allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for work permits. In the process, he also made a video call with his mother, whom he had not seen in the Philippines for 20 years, and began to repair their estranged relationship due to immigration problems at that time.
