Astronomy graduate student Kate Dibas Kay (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) have made a startling discovery: a comet orbiting in the solar system. The problem is that this comet will collide directly with Earth. Another problem is that no one seems to really care. After all, it is unconvincing to warn mankind that Mount Qomolangma is about to crash into the earth and destroy the world. With the help of Dr. Ogelsop (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall begin to adopt media tactics, saying goodbye to the indifferent President Orleans (Meryl Streep) and her brown-noser son and chief of staff Jason (Jonah Hill) to the studio of The Daily Rip-a cheerful morning show Hosted by Bree (Kate Blanchett) and Jack (Taylor Perry). It's only six months before the comet hits Earth, and it's going to take a long time to make the world look up a little bit in order to get the news scrolling around the clock on the news channel and to arouse the attention of people addicted to browsing their phones.
