Based on Sarah Waters' novel "Fingersmith" of the same name. On a large estate on the outskirts of London, Mr. Li and his niece Maud (Elaine Cassidy) live. Mr. Li is grumpy, driving him to organize and read aloud in the library all day. The poor girl never stepped out of the manor from an early age and lived a dark life. One day, the intrusion of a stranger brought life to Maud's long-dried heart. He came to teach Maud to paint (Rupert Evans), but God knows, Raffles's true identity is a thief. When he heard that Maud had a 40, 000-pound dowry, he came up with the way to make money by cheating marriage. In order to ensure success, Rivers found Sue (Sally Hawkins) in the theft gang to help. After arrangement, Sue became Maude's maid. Under the careful planning step by step, things went in the direction that Rivers expected. What he did not know was that there was a sincere love between Maude and Sue. Sue became more and more guilty and blamed herself, and Sue was heartbroken to see that Maude was about to be sent to the madhouse. But things soon took a sharp turn for the worse.
