First They Killed My Father (2017)

Angelina Jolie announced via Netflix that she will direct the company's new film, First They Killed My Father. The film focuses on Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime and will be starred by its adopted son Maddox. The film is adapted from First They Killed My Father: A Daugher of Cambodia Remembers, a memoir of Cambodian-American female writer Loung Ung, about her tragic survival during the Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodia. Loung Ung was born in Cambodia in 1970. Five years later, the Khmer Rouge (the Democratic Party of Cambodia) became the ruling party and established a democratic Cambodian regime, followed by nearly four years of regulation in Cambodia. During this period, about 2 million Cambodians died abnormally as a result of political persecution, famine, hard labor, disease and other causes. Loung Ung's family was broken up in the disaster. Orphaned, she was trained as a boy scout, while her brothers and sisters were sent to a labor camp.
