In the 1920s, Mexico. With the new President Kares taking office, a standoff between government and religion is inevitable. Cales was an atheist, and by this time Mexican Catholicism had become a deeply rooted local culture. Cales thought that Catholicism destroyed the minds of the entire Mexican people, so he decided to clean up the churches in Mexico. Karles's approach naturally caused a public backlash, and the US ambassador to Mexico (Bruce Greenwood Bruce Greenwood), who was tweaking between the Mexican government and the church, tried to resolve the dispute, but the war on faith inevitably broke out. The government stubbornly adopts a bloodbath policy to arrest, kill Catholics, and even execute priests on the spot in churches; priests are forced to take up arms in self-defense, and the local prestigious pastor Victorio (Oscar Isaac Oscar Isaac) picks up machine guns and calls on the people to resist the power. At the same time, Enrique, Mexico's youngest general (Andy Garcia Andy Garcia), who has rendered meritorious service, is also deep in what the government has done.
