The story takes place in 1939. Daniel (Mel Gibson Mel Gibson) is an Air Force pilot who has always been deeply in love with a woman named Helen (Isabel Glasser). Just when Daniel decides to make his feelings public, Helen has an accident and becomes a vegetable. Heartbroken Daniel finds his best friend Harry (George Wenditt George Wendt) who studies cryobiology, hoping the latter can freeze himself to escape from reality. To Daniel's surprise, by the time he opened his eyes again, time had leapt to 1992, when the world was very different from that before he fell asleep. Daniel wanted to find Harry, but he found Harry's daughter and learned of the death of his best friend. At the same time, Daniel also learned that Helen had already awakened and still lives alone on the cliff by the sea to this day. Excited Daniel rushed there non-stop to find a lover he hadn't seen for a long time.
