The film is the Latin version of Jane Austen's classic novel sense and Sensibility. The background of the story is modern Los Angeles. Sister Nora Dominiquez (Camilla Bell Camilla Belle) is a law school student. Sister Mary (Alexa Vega Alexa Vega) is a dropout at home. All she cares about is shopping and partying for fun. They live an extremely luxurious life with their father in Beverly Hills. Mary refused to admit that she was born with Mexican ancestry. When her father died suddenly, the luxurious way of life disappeared. Not only did the sisters become poor, they were forced to move out of their current homes to their estranged aunt Aurelia (Adrianna Baraza Adriana Barraza), a predominantly Latino community in Boyle Heights east of Los Angeles.
