Maximons (Russell Crowe) is a highly respected general of the Roman Empire. Old King Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) appreciates the general and intends to crown him. The old king's love for the general naturally aroused the jealousy and uneasiness of Prince Comodius. The prince waited for an opportunity to kill his father, ascended the throne first, and immediately ordered the killing of the general's family. Maximons narrowly escaped the grip of the tyrant, but all his family did not survive and returned home. All he saw was a scene of ruin and destruction. Desperate Maximus can only join the slave, from the former general to a gladiator, in the bloody fight to survive. With his heroic spirit and superb martial arts, Maximus gradually stood out and advanced to the Colosseum in Rome. This time, his sword was directed at the tyrant Commodius, and the pain of losing a loved one and the humiliation of being a slave ignited anger in the heart of Maximus.
