Steve Gleason, a former NFL player, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at the age of 34. Two weeks later, his wife discovered that she was pregnant with a baby, and Gleason began to record the birth of his son, the lives of the Gleasons and the progress of his illness by video every day. As the child was born and grew up, Gleason became weaker and weaker until he was completely paralyzed from the neck down and lost the ability to speak. Despite his terminal illness, Gleason never gave up life and found a new direction in life-he founded public welfare organizations and funds in his own name to improve and help the lives of other ALS patients.
