Himalaya (1999)

In the Mangmang mountains connected to the sky, there is a Tibetan village. Due to the lack of self-sufficiency in grain production, it has been transporting salt for generations. The son of the old leader Tianni, who was supposed to be the next head of the village, died accidentally on the way to transporting salt, while Kama, the widely expected successor, was in Tianni's eyes a criminal who deliberately killed his son in order to take the position of the leader. On the eve of a new salt transport journey, the two factions in the village, led by Tianni and Karma, held their own words and refused to give way to each other. In the end, Karma led the young people to set out ahead of the days of divination, while Tini led a group of old followers on the road before he became the son and grandson of the Lama. Salt transport teams not only eat and sleep all the way, but also deal with unexpected dangers in the mountains. Which of the two salt transport teams can overcome difficulties and obstacles to reach the end of the journey first? The image style of this film is wild and beautiful, soul-stirring, like fairy music-like Tibetan Sanskrit sound throughout, relaxing and exhilarating. The film is a nine-month plot and documentary film jointly made by France, Nepal, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. it was nominated for the 72 th Academy Award for Best Foreign language Film and the European Best Cinematography Award in 2000.
