Xiao Ling (voiced by Neng Nian Lingnai) is a girl who is slow and confused all day. Her biggest hobby is painting. Seeing that she had reached the age of getting married, under the arrangement of her parents, Xiao Ling came to Wu City, married a man named Beitiao Zhouzuo (voiced by Hsiao Jiazheng) and became the wife of the Beitiao family. Jingzi (voiceover) is Zhou Zuo's sister, who lives back home with her daughter Qingmei (dubbing of Rice, Leaf and vegetable Moon). Unlike the virtuous and honest Xiao Ling, Jingzi has a flamboyant and spiteful personality. although she is often dissatisfied with the submissive Xiao Ling, the relationship between the two is actually very close. As the war began, more and more fighters flew across the sky, the shrill air defense sirens often broke the stillness of the night, and the shadow of the war covered the lives of the Beitiao family. In an air raid, Qingmei was killed, and Xiao Ling lost her right hand and could no longer paint. However, in such a cruel situation, the family still did not give up their desire for survival.
