Charlie (Nicholas Cage) is a good policeman who is kind, gentle and likes children, but he has a vain and selfish wife. They are as noisy as all mismatched couples, but Charlie is always patient. One day Charlie's wife told Charlie to buy a lottery ticket when she dreamt about her father and decided it had a special meaning. The kind Charlie had no money to tip Eva at breakfast, so he agreed that if he won the lottery, he would share half of it, and if he didn't win the lottery, he would come the next day to make up the tip. Not taking it seriously, Eva didn't expect a miracle to happen, and Charlie's lottery won a huge prize of 4 million dollars! Charlie, who kept his promise, gave half of the bonus to Eva, freeing Eva from a life of bankruptcy and poverty, despite his wife's complaints. The wife who became a rich man was talking and laughing in high society, while Charlie got closer and closer to Eva, who was also kind and enthusiastic. The wife took them to court to reclaim their own property, but Charlie and Eva lost the case. The two, who were going to leave the city, spent their last night together in their own coffee shop, giving a bowl of hot soup to the penniless black man on a rainy night. The black journalist, who had worked hard in New York City for ten years, wrote about the night in the newspaper, and everyone in New York City knew the kindness of the couple.
