Bruno (Rudy Fogler R ü diger Vogler), a movie projector repairman, roams the German countryside in a big truck, doing odd jobs for the country projection hall, looking forward to finding a job and meeting the woman of her life. Robert (Hans Zishler Hanns Zischler), an expert in child linguistics, seems to be trying to commit suicide when he drives down the road alone after breaking up with his wife when the car is driven into the river. Bruno, who was passing by, happened to meet and helped him out of trouble. After that, Robert took a tacit ride in Breno's truck in rural Germany to show movies for the cinema. Together, they witnessed the invasion of American culture on the German film industry, which led to the decline of German films, and experienced the loneliness and alienation along the way. Just when their friendship is closer, the two, who have long been accustomed to loneliness, have to face the separation in the opposite direction. The King of the Highway is the most successful German director Wim Wendes' Road Trilogy after Alice in the City and the wrong Road. It won the Cannes Film critic Phoebe Award in 1976.
