La peste (2018 - 2019)
In the second half of the sixteenth century, Seville was a big city in the western world and the gateway from Europe to America. The richness of the city depends on international trade and wealth of gold and silver. it is also attributed to the people at home and abroad who live together: Christians, Jews who convert to Christianity, baptized moors, slaves, free slaves, tramps, thieves, prostitutes, aristocrats, civilians. At the same time, inequality, famine and infectious diseases constitute the dark side of the city. In an outbreak of the Black death, several prominent members of Seville society were killed. Matthew, a criminal tried by the Inquisition, must solve this series of murders in order to be pardoned by the Inquisition and save his own life. This is a desperate investigation, faced with an extremely complex and contradictory environment. There, public repression and private pleasures coexist; mysticism and disorder are everywhere; monasteries are lax, but brothels are strict; prisons are hideouts and hospitals are burial grounds; betrayal and loyalty are intertwined. The second season has been confirmed in November 2019. Award: 2017 San Sebastian Film Festival: official choice of non-competition.
