This film is based on a real event that happened during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Maria (Naomi Wirtz Naomi Watts) and Henry (Ivan McGregor Ewan McGregor) take their three sons to Thailand for Christmas, only to find that the day after Christmas, when the happy family is enjoying a leisurely time by the pool, a beast-like wave of ten thousand feet is coming. Stunned by the sight, Maria was unresponsive and was hit by huge waves, and although Henry caught the two sons in time to escape, it was still too late, and the ferocious flood finally washed them away.
