The film ranks 44th in the "100 greatest German movies" and is the world's first lesbian film. The story is set in a girls' school where the students are the daughters of military officers, and the love affair takes place between the students Manuvira and Mrs. von Bernberg. Manuvira, who had just lost her mother, worshipped Bernberg, the female teacher, like all her classmates, because she was the only one of all the teachers who did not believe in stick education. But soon they felt strangely attracted to each other, although the teacher was reluctant to admit it. Once, at the school drama festival, Manuvira starred in Schiller's Don Carlos and was a great success. In the celebration that followed, when all the girls were a little drunk, Manuvira confessed her love to the teacher. But unfortunately, the headmaster heard the fiery end and sent Manuvira to the infirmary. But Manuvira escaped from the infirmary while the headmaster was talking to Mrs. Bernberg, climbed to the top of the school stairwell, and planned to jump.
