In 1972, a mountain village in Qingdao, Shandong Province welcomed unusual guests. The commissioner from Beijing came here to select children with dance qualifications. Li Cunxin, an 11-year-old boy, was lucky enough to be elected. Taking the train to Beijing, he came to the Central May Seven Art School. After seven years of hard closed training, he grew from a backward student who didn't like ballet at first to an excellent dancer. During this period, the outside world is changing, and it is not difficult for artists in the ivory tower to feel the change. In 1979, the Houston Ballet invited Li Cunxin to go to the United States as an exchange student. When he set foot in this strange land, he deeply felt the great collision between the old beliefs and the capitalist material and spiritual civilization. With the passage of time, Li felt the call of freedom, art and love, so he decided to stay in this land. This film won the best foreign language film award at the 2009 S ã o Paulo International Film Festival.
