In 1976, 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dingle (voiced by Bethany Whitmore Bethany Whitmore) was a little girl from Melbourne, Australia, who loved the cartoon Norbulit, sweet condensed milk and chocolate. Mary's mother is an alcoholic, while her father, who works in a tea packaging factory, only likes to make bird specimens. Lonely Mary had no friends. One day, on a whim, Mary wrote a letter to Max Jerry Horowitz (Phillip Semmer Hoffman Philip Seymour Hoffman) of New York City, asking where American children came from, along with a cherry chocolate bar. The 44-year-old Marx, who is autistic and obese, also happens to like watching Norbulit cartoons and eating chocolate. Their pen pal relationship lasted from 1976 to 1994, during which they each experienced many ups and downs, until adult Mary (Toni Klaette Toni Collette) finally came to New York to visit Marx. This film won the Best Animated feature Film Award at the 2009 Ansi International Animation Film Festival, the Crystal Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and Ottawa International Motion.
