Gorbachev, nearly 90 years old, was the supreme leader of the former Soviet Union. He was born on a farm, experienced famine and was the youngest president of the country at that time; he was a key figure that led to the collapse of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War; he was highly regarded in the Western world, but he was like a street mouse in his home country; he starred in TV movies, spoke of Pizza Hut and LV, and still had tears in his eyes when he talked about his dead wife. Herzog, a new German film master famous for shooting extreme characters, this time focused on the most influential political figures of the 20th century. The intimate and sincere dialogue between the two men, interspersed with precious archival images, supplemented by interviews with political celebrities of various countries at that time, made a detailed review and comb of Gorbachev's growth and political career, life and political beliefs, as well as the development and changes of the modern Soviet Union and the world.
