Metro Manila (2013)

Married couple Mak and Oscar found that they could not support themselves and their two youngest daughters by growing rice in the northern Philippines. In search of a better life, they went to Manila, the capital, where what little money they had left was quickly spent. Mak was forced to work in a bar, and Oscar found a job driving and protecting armored trucks. Unfortunately, Oscar was soon forced into a conspiracy to rob. This is a small-budget film shot with a digital camera and produced by a small crew. In lost Manila, director Sean Ellis, who doesn't speak Filipino, has to deal with all the problems, including directing actors to speak Filipino. The sincere performance of the actors and Ellis's emphasis on non-verbal guidance made the film a success. The film was filmed in the Philippines, which gives it a local flavor everywhere.
