Mohalla Assi is a 2018 Bollywood satirical comedy film starring Sunny Deol and directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi. Assi Ghat is a gable in Varanasi (Banaras) on the banks of the Ganges. The film is shot in a famous historic "Mohalla" (area) at the southern tip of Banaras. The film is based on Kashi Nath Singh's popular Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi, a satire about the commercialization of pilgrimage cities, which tells the events of 1990 and 1989, including the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the implementation of the Mandal committee. On June 30, 2015, "Mohalla Assi" was banned by the Delhi court on suspicion of using abusive language to hurt religious feelings. After many delays, Mohalla Assi was officially released on November 16, 2018. Before its release, "Mohalla Assi" was in the 20s.
