Mr. Bachmann and His Class (2021)

Where can I feel at home? In Stat Arendolf, a German city with a complex history of exclusion and integration of foreigners, Ditte Bachmann, an affable teacher, helps his students feel at home. The students, aged between 12 and 14, come from 12 different countries, and some of them have not yet fully mastered German. Before retiring, the teacher hopes to stimulate the curiosity of these future citizens about different areas of work, themes, cultures and lifestyles. After watching this fascinating and empathetic documentary, people can't help but realize that if all children are lucky enough to have such highly emotional and patient teachers, the conflict can be alleviated through discussion. John Lennon's "imagination" can become a reality. Director Maria Spade and photographer Reinhold Vorschneider show that education is not only important, but can be a spectacular process-and presents it so brilliantly on stage that the film itself is almost heroic.
