Suzanne returned from the concentration camp to ruined Berlin after World War II, only to find someone else living in her apartment, Dr. Hans Mertens. He was made negative by the war and addicted to drinking. Susanna told him to leave, but the other party didn't want to go, so they shared a room in Suzanne's apartment and even began to like each other until they fell in love. This encouraged Mertens a little, and then he learned that Captain Bruckner was still alive and lived in Berlin. Captain Bruckner was his leader in World War II. He ordered the killing of more than a hundred innocent lives, including many women and children, on Christmas Day. The film ranks sixth among the 100 greatest German films.
