In the village of Yamamura, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, the Asano family ushered in the anniversary ceremony of their mother Seijiang (Miyako). The children came from all directions, and the old house, which had been silent for a long time, came back to life. After the ceremony, the children discussed the matter of Zhaonan (Mikuni Rentaro), his father for the aged, but no matter how others advised him, the stubborn Zhaonan always refused to leave the old house. Shortly after that, Akio came to Tokyo to attend the comrade-in-arms party and stopped by to visit his two sons who worked hard here. Although the eldest son Tadashi Tanaka (Tanaka Takeso) is a decent white-collar worker, he is struggling to support his family and house; the second son Tetsuo (Yonagi Zhengmin) quit his job in a pub and enters a steel mill. He even met the girl Zhengzi he wanted (and Yingye Nagai). Although the two sons have their own bitterness, they always work hard for happiness. Seeing this, Zhao Nan's worry was finally slightly relieved, and he was willing to be lonely. The film is based on Ji Mingcheng's novel Warehouse operator, and won the 1992 Japan Film Academy Award for Best work, Best Actor (Mikuni Rentaro), Best supporting Actor (Masaomi Nagaishi), Best supporting Actress (and Yoshihiro Hisui) and Best New Artist.
