The Don Woody (Bruce Dunn Bruce Dern) received an advertisement saying that he had won the 1 million lottery, and he decided to walk from Billings, Montana to Lincoln, Nebraska to receive the award. His wife and two sons failed many times to dissuade him, and finally his youngest son David (will Ford Will Forte) decided to drive him to Lincoln to receive the award. On their way to Lincoln, they passed Woody's hometown and decided to visit relatives they hadn't seen for a long time. During the Woody family's short stay there, the whole town knew that Woody had won the lottery, and Woody became the town's celebrity, followed by his old creditors. David also gradually learned about Woody's unknown past and gained a new understanding of his father.
