Geophysicist Dr. Xiosuke Tansuo (Kobayashi Kobayashi) led his team to the deep-sea scientific research, only to find abnormal cracks and mudflows on the bottom of the sea. After a series of investigations, he came to the conclusion that the Japanese islands were about to sink in a year's time. But Japanese government officials believe that Dr Tansuo's prediction is an unbelievable lie. Only Prime Minister Yamamoto (Hiroshi Ishisaka) recognizes the seriousness of the situation and appoints Tansuo's ex-wife Shatsuki Mori (Meiji) as crisis management minister, leading Dr. Tansuo and their team to try to save Japan. Soon, starting from Hokkaido, a large-scale geological disaster occurred in Mr. Ishima, Japan, and the whole of Japan was in a panic. The government is at a loss about the disaster, the only overseas immigration policy is completely unable to cope with the sharp deterioration, and the reality of the complete sinking of the Japanese islands is about to unfold. Finally, Dr. Tanaka and his scientific research team finally found a way to save Japan, but the actual operation of this method was beset with difficulties. The film, adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Japanese science fiction writer Komatsu Zuoki, costs 2 billion yen and is the most invested and publicized disaster film in Japan in recent years.
