The film is divided into two different parts. The first part, directed by Mircea Verrou, describes the miserable life of a Romanian widow in the early 20th century. The second part, directed by Dan Picha, is about a bride at a wedding. Mircea Verroyo (born 1941) and Danpica (born 1938) are the most original filmmakers in Romania, and together they have produced two outstanding films: stone Marriage (1972) and Golden Soul (1974). There is no doubt that both films are one of the best films ever made in Romania. They have received great acclaim all over the world and have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Based on a novel by Romanian writer Ion Agarbiceanu, Stone Marriage describes the living conditions in Transylvanian countryside at the beginning of the last century. These stories are full of a deep tragic shock, a sense of fatalism that seems to be everywhere. All of this is expressed in unforgettable photography. It is no exaggeration to say that every shot is a work of art. In the first part, actress Leopoldina Balanuta's every move and every look is full of sensibility and wisdom. She knows how to imply years of life, the accumulation of hope and despair, stubborn love and the great pain repressed under the cloak of silence. These powerful lens words can only be matched by the tragic innocence in the eyes of the second part of Mircea Diaconu (deserters). Of the two directors, Mircea Verrou likes the contemplative, cold and condensed style, while Dampica, in his part, turns it into a vibrant story with many ironic moments and expressive characters. and in the end there is a painful tragic turning point. In any case, Stone Marriage is a movie worth watching over and over again. Each time, it seems to have added a new dimension.
