In the United States in the 1920s, New York teenager Noodles (played by Robert de Niro) and several friends of the same age met the clever and cunning "Maida" (James Woods), and they began to engage in smuggling activities. Soon after, noodles were killed in an armed fight and were sent to prison. A few years later, Noodle was released from prison, and his friends at that time had become able-bodied young people. Under the leadership of Maida, they began a series of robberies, theft and extortion activities. With the deepening of criminal activities, "Maida" seems to have been carried away by the victory and even included the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States as its target of action. "Noodles" could not bear to see his friends go to destruction and secretly called the police in an attempt to force "Maida" to stop. The police engaged in a fierce shootout with friends of Noodles, and all of them were killed. Noodles left New York with deep remorse and pain and returned to the place where he grew up when he was young. 35 years later, the near-twilight "Noodle" returned to the sad place of New York, where he met young friends and old lovers, and there was an unexpected plot behind the death of "Maida".
