The film tells a true story. Peppino Impastato was a young social activist in Italy in the 1970s. In the late 1970s, he insisted on exposing the crimes of an important mafia leader, Tano Badalamenti, and the entire mafia organization through a small local radio station. In 1978, Peppino was assassinated. The police concluded that it was an accident or suicide, but Peppino's friends never accepted the story. Twenty years later, the case was rehabilitated.
