The play is adapted from Jo Bloom's highly acclaimed novel of the same name. The story is set in London in the 1960s, when far-right fascism was on the rise. The heroine Vivien Epstein fell in love with a member of the anti-fascist alliance 62 Group, who gave up a comfortable middle-class life in Manchester and joined the anti-fascist struggle in London as her lover stepped into danger. For the sake of his beliefs and loved ones, Vivien decided to go undercover with the fascists.
