The story takes place in Shanghai in the 1930s. Gordon Vasser is a clever American guy who comes to China to look for opportunities to make a fortune. Gurria is a determined missionary nurse who wants to use the magical power of opium to relieve the suffering of the patient. in order to find a batch of lost opium, the two fought with local drug dealers, triads and romantic love stories. Legend has it that after the death of Ferradi, the opium king in Shanghai, a large amount of opium was stolen by his servant Wu Zhongshu, whose whereabouts are unknown. A year later, Burns of the church and Miss Terak, an assistant, decided to find the opium to relieve the pain for the wounded soldiers. They called on Glendon Weiss to help. However, after Wessie found Ferradi's mistress, the Chinese doll, he was taken captive by Mei Jian, a gangster who pretended to be a policeman, and was tortured and questioned altogether. After Wessie was frustrated, she had planned to give up, but decided to continue to help her because of her growing affection with Miss Terak. With the help of the Chinese doll, Wei Xi found Wu Zhongshu, and Wei solved what Wu Zhongshu called the "last Phoenix." after questioning the Chinese doll, he knew that the whole thing had something to do with Mei Jian stealing the jewelry from the mausoleum of the Empress Dowager Cixi. When the legendary opium was wrong, it accidentally fell on Wessie.
