Keaton (Baxter Keaton Buster Keaton), the hero of the film, is a country cinema projectionist who likes to read detective books and often fantasize about being a great detective like Holmore. One day, he lied about giving his girlfriend Kathleen (Kathryn McGuire) four yuan worth of chocolates, only to be framed by his rival, saying that Keaton stole other people's watches and pawned them to buy chocolates. Kathleen believed the slanderers and kicked Keaton out of the door and called off their engagement. After Keaton's visit, he found that the rival in love was the guy who stole the watch pawn, but there was no evidence to clear up the grievance. One day, when Keaton was showing a movie, he found that the story on the screen was the same as what happened to him, and the characters were the same, except that the story in the movie took place in an upper-class family. Keaton indulged in the film while showing the film, so he walked out of the screening room and into the screen from the auditorium to arrest rival criminals. But Keaton, who entered the screen, hit a brick wall everywhere and was at a loss. With the change of the scene, the image on the screen continues to change from fantasy to reality.
