Some Came Running (1958)

The story is set in a small town in the Midwest after World War II, where a writer returns to his hometown in Illinois, where he meets gamblers struggling on the brink of death. They wander around, trying to bring the town back to life, during which he meets a dissolute and sexy woman who falls in love with him, reflecting his mental journey from longing for fame to awakening. The whole film has a strong literary flavor, it seems that there are more cases of psychological study of the writer than a drama story, but director Vincent Minnelli has succeeded in creating an atmosphere of the times, and has also made an in-depth and interesting portrayal of the complex personalities of several protagonists. The actors performed miraculously, making people feel the bitterness and joy of life in ordinary events.
