Spartacus (1960)

PG-13 | 3h 17m | Action, Biography, History, Adventure | USA

In 73 BC, Spartacus (Kirk Douglas Kirk Douglas), a slave from the province of Liberia in ancient Rome, fell in love with a female slave Valenia (played by Joan Simmons Jean Simmons) at the Gapua fighting School. In the same year, the slaves of the fighting school, led by Spartacus, revolted and were freed, and Spartacus was reunited with Varinia and married. The uprising shocked the ruling clique in Rome and intensified the contradiction between the aristocracy and the populists in the Senate. Aristocratic general Klassou (Lawrence Olivier Laurence Olivier) takes the opportunity to defeat the populist leader Gracu (Charles Lawton Charles Laughton), usurping the power of the chief consul and exercising dictatorship. In order to fight Klassou, Gracu planned to release the army of slaves in private, but Klassou paid a lot of money to buy off the pirates and recalled two armies fighting abroad. The Spartacus insurgents were outnumbered on three sides, and tens of thousands of slaves were killed. He, his wife and six thousand surviving comrades-in-arms were captured by Klassou. At the last minute, with the help of Gracu, the situation changed again.
