In 2285, the USS Enterprise, damaged during the battle with Khan, returned to Earth's spaceport for repairs. Kirk is still grieving over Spock's death. Dr. Mckoy had all kinds of abnormal behavior, such as trespassing into the blocked Spock's original cabin, nonsense, and so on, and he was finally taken to the hospital for psychiatric examination. Scotty was assigned to the Federal Starship Excelsior. Starfleet Command issued a ban on the newly formed Genesis Star. Kirk was told that the Enterprise was about to be decommissioned. Spock's father Sharik found Kirk and told him that Spock's body must return to Vulcan, or his soul would not rest in peace. Sharek asked Kirk to go back to Genesis, retrieve Spock's coffin and bring it back to Vulcan-and Spock had a spiritual fusion with Mckoy before he died, so Mckoy with Spock's soul had to go to Vulcan. However, Starfleet refused to let the old Enterprise leave the spaceport. Mckoy, who heard the news after coming out of the hospital, tried to recruit a ship to return to Genesis. He was arrested during an argument, but it didn't affect the whole plan: help from Kirk, Scott, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov.
