The Butcher Boy (1997)

Francis (Aemon Owens Eamonn Owens) lives in an unhappy family where his father is an alcoholic who punches and kicks his cowardly and mentally unstable mother whenever he gets drunk. Joey is Francis's only friend, and the two often delight in making fun of Philip (Andrew Fullerton). The cruel reality makes Francis like to hide in the magical world in the comics, and his head is full of strange fantasies. His mother finally had a nervous breakdown and was sent to an insane asylum. Francis, who could not stand his father's violence, left his hometown to make a living in Berlin. When he returned to his hometown again, he found that his mother had chosen to commit suicide. Francis was sent to a reformatory school because of a prank, where he was subjected to inhuman treatment. It was religion that supported him to move on. After leaving the reformatory school, Francis found a job in the slaughterhouse.
