Michelle Pfeiffer will star in the new Showtime drama "first Ladies" as first Lady Betty Ford, wife of President Gerald Ford. Ford, who served as first lady of the United States from 1974 to 1977, is also one of the more active presidential wives in history and politics, keen to comment on current events. After she openly battled alcohol and drug overdose, she also raised public awareness of addiction. The show is directed by Suzanne Bill ("doing nothing") and written by writer Aaron Kuli. And served as executive producers along with Oscar-winning filmmakers Cathy Shulman, Davis, Julius Tenon, King Andrew, Jeff Gaspin and Brad Kaplan. The first season of the show will focus on the personal and political lives of three first ladies, Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, who have inspired the reshaping of American leadership. Viola Davis had previously been announced that she would play the role of former first lady Michelle Obama.
