Thomas (Thomas Sunster Thomas Sangsters) is born with a good memory, and her mother Maria (Giovanne Mesoz Giovanna Mezzogiorno) was a member of the French underground during World War II. In order to protect Jewish property in the Swiss bank, Maria asked Thomas to remember a large number of Swiss bank account passwords and put Thomas in foster care in the countryside. Soon after the Nazis killed Thomas's grandfather, Thomas began to flee. The Nazis hired Maria's university teacher Gregor (Klaus Mary Brondall Klaus Maria Brandauer) to help hunt down Maria and her son. In such a hurry, Maria has to turn to Thomas's father David (Stephen Moore Stephen Moyer) for help. When David arrived in France, he found that Gregor had captured Thomas. In desperation, Maria had to offer herself in exchange for Thomas. When Maria died bravely, David rescued Thomas in the chaos. Father and son fled to Switzerland together. But the cunning Gregor followed again.
